The California Department of General Services fleet division is in the midst of auctioning 50 vehicles online; its largest ever online vehicle auction. The auction will close on February 10, 2010. Participants must register with the site in order to bid on available vehicles. This is the first wave of statewide online vehicle auctions. It is anticipated that each online auction will run in a weekly cycle and DGS plans to post new auctions weekly as vehicles become available. In August, Governor Schwarzenegger ordered state agencies to cut vehicle fleets by 15 percent. Since that time, DGS has sold 1,500 vehicles and expects to sell approximately 2,000 more this year.
