Doll-McNiece-Miller Farms to sell 3,398 acres in Cimarron
Published January 3rd, 2009
The Doll, McNiece and Miller families are preparing to sell approximately 3,398 acres at auction Thursday, Jan. 15, with Schrader Auction Company managing the sale. The land being sold will include irrigated cropland, pastureland, horse facilities, livestock feeding facilities and a grain-handling facility.
“After years of growth and expansion, a little estate planning is in order,” said Dan Miller, co-owner of the properties. “Our children’s interests and careers are taking them in different directions outside of agriculture, so it’s the right time to reduce our family holdings of farmland in the Cimarron area,” he said.
The sale will not impact DM&M Feedyard or other related operations, according to Miller. “This affects only the farmland that is not adjacent to our feeding facility,” he said.
The property will be offered in 23 tracts, including:
The farm headquarters, consisting of approximately 299 acres with a 120,000-bushel grain storage and handling facility, as well as barn, steel cattle pens, 30-ton cattle/truck scales, fuel storage tanks, irrigation well and other facilities.
17 irrigated quarters (2,720 acres) of tillable cropland with a history for producing high corn and alfalfa yields. Several tracts are bordered by the Arkansas River and U.S. Highway 50.
More than 600 acres of pasture with high-quality native grasses. The pasture is fenced and cross fenced to create four quadrants for grazing.
A home site of approximately 7.5 acres with equestrian facilities built in 2005, including a barn, riding arena, portable round pen, mature trees and underground irrigation.
“Land in this area doesn’t change hands very often, so this will be one of the larger sales in recent memory,” said R.D. Schrader, vice president of Schrader Auction. “Most of these tracts have excellent water, and the owners have been very diligent about maintaining the irrigation equipment, so it is in excellent condition. In addition, much of this land has excellent views of the Arkansas River Valley. It may sell to one buyer or as many as 23 different buyers. By offering the property in 23 tracts, we’ll enable bidders to purchase the tracts that are of the greatest interest to them,” said Schrader.
The auction will begin at 10 a.m. at the Gray County 4-H Extension Building on West U.S. Highway 50/400. In a related sale, Schrader will also manage the auction of well-maintained farm equipment at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at 9505 N Road, Ingalls, Kan.
