Christie’s Arts & Design Auctions Total $9,104,625

The overall total of lastweek’s 20th Century Decorative Art and Design auctions at Christie’s was $9,104,625. This result reflects the totals from the sales 20th Century Design from the Collection of George and Frayda Lindemann, Important Works of Art by Tiffany Studios, and Important 20th Century Decorative Art and Design.

The single-owner sale of 20th Century Design from the Collection of George and Frayda Lindemann totaled $3,578,250 and sold 81% by value. The sale featured furniture and objects from Mr. and Mrs. Lindemann’s home in Palm Beach, and encompassed iconic works by the most important and successful Art Deco designers and key works from the 1940’s. The auction was led by two desks by Paul Dupré-Lafon, and a ‘Mobilier Gingko’ comprised of a patinated bronze dining table and six chairs by Claude Lalanne (estimate: $200,00-300,000), which sold for $314,500 and established a world auction record for the artist.

Important Works of Art From Tiffany Studios achieved $2,536,250 and sold 92% by value. Highlighting the sale was a stunning ‘Wisteria’ leaded glass and bronze table lamp, circa 1910 (estimate: $200,000-300,000), which fetched $410,500.

The Important 20th Century Decorative Art & Design auction totaled $2,990,125 and sold 74% by value. The sale was highlighted by Carlo Mollino’s unique ‘Arabesque’ occasional table (estimate: $800,000-1,200,000), which sold for $1,314,500.
