ncluded in this auction are a number of notable works by important and revered photographers of the 20th century:
George Platt Lynes studied in Paris with Man Ray and admired Jean Cocteau and Gertrude Stein. It was under these influences that he opened his photography studio in New York City during 1932; surrealism, neo-romanticism and other European visual movements remained with him. Sono Osato, $1200-$2000
Kate Breakey has gained international recognition for her large-scale, richly hand-colored photographs. Since 1980, her work has appeared in more than 56 solo exhibitions worldwide. In her work, she attempts to establish an understanding of the natural world, both intellectual and emotional, distilled into a visual language of images. Common Grackle, $2500-$4000
Lotte Jacobi is best known for her photographic portraits, which act as a “chronicle of an era.” The list of her subjects reads like a who’s who of the 20th century: W. H. Auden, Martin Buber, Marc Chagall, W.E.B. Du Bois, Albert Einstein, Robert Frost, Lotte Lenya, Peter Lorre, Thomas Mann, Max Planck, Eleanor Roosevelt, J.D. Salinger, to name a few. On auction is her portrait of Käthe Kollwitz, $1000-$1500
