Marilyn Monroe Film Footage for Auction
Published September 5th, 2008
Auctioneer Charles Leski says the two-and-a-half minute 8mm film shows Monroe and co-star Tony Curtis on the set before shooting a beach scene. Director Billy Wilder is also seen. The film was shot by a U.S. naval officer. He was invited to the film set, after Monroe visited his base in San Diego. The 8 mm film, in its original Kodak box, was passed on to the man’s daughter who lives in Melbourne, Australia. When he died she decided to put it up for sale, thinking it may be of significance to the film world. Auctioneers expect the rare clips to fetch thousands of dollars.
It was filmed in 1959.
