Ritchie Bros in Dispute Over Clark County Auction Facility
Published July 14th, 2008
Ritchie Bros has filed a lawsuit over it’s ts South Vienna facility because an Ohio law prevents non-licensed companies from selling used automobiles.
The lawsuit against Ohio’s attorney general, the director and registrar for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and Clark County’s prosecutor, is to protect Ritchie Bros operations until a legislative solution can be found.
Gary Caufield, director of legal affairs and insolvency for Ritchie Bros, said the lawsuit will give state legislators time to change the law.
“The law in Ohio is unique, allowing only auto dealers to sell motor vehicles,” Caufield said. “This is a law that goes back to the ’50s. It didn’t anticipate our business.”
