Halopeau Doll Auctioned for $109,250 at Morphy
Published May 21st, 2008
A circa-1880 Halopeau “H” (Halopeau) bébé, 24 inches tall and dressed in period clothing of pink silk and lace, was the opening-session star of Morphy Auctions’ May 17-18 Fine Doll debut. The doll had been estimated at $50,000-$70,000, but Becky Ourant, co-director of Morphy’s Fine Doll & Teddy Bear department, had noted prior to the sale that an “H” bébé had previously achieved a price of $100,000.
The blond, bisque-head doll with deep-blue paperweight eyes led a lineup of exquisite antique dolls, dollhouses, miniatures, doll and dollhouse furnishings, and candy containers from several prestigious private collections.
