Thieves strip SUV at auto auction

A seized sport utility vehicle was stripped of its electronic components at a Davie auto auction.
Many cars are left unlocked with the keys inside at the Manheim Fort Lauderdale Auto Auction, 5353 S. State Road 7.
A 2002 Cadillac Escalade was seized by the U.S. Treasury Department and arrived at the auto auction on Feb. 15, 2007. The SUV was inventoried for electronic components and parked on the lot for storage purposes.
On Feb. 7, 2008, Treasury agents arrived at the business to search and take photographs of the SUV.
The following items were missing: A DVD player valued at $500, four Pyle DVD visor-headrest monitors valued at $1,500, a Pyle pull-down monitor valued at $300, two Pioneer subwoofer box speakers valued at $300, and an Audiofonics 1500 W amplifier valued at $600.
Two other monitors that were tampered with were dusted for fingerprints but none was found. www.miamiherald.com
