Monday February 25 San Francisco
The inaugural sale of the 2008 season offers property from private collectors highlighted by the collection of Mark D. Miller of Cuernavaca, Mexico including Flemish tapestries, Dutch marquetry furniture, a Dutch baroque tall case clock, wonderful examples of Dutch Delftware, and Mexican silver.
American furniture features a fine selection from the Queen Anne, Chippendale, Federal and Aesthetic periods as well as a wonderful polychromed wood African-American trade store figure. For collectors of Anna pottery, there is a delightful pig flask by Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick. A gold and agate match safe, dated 1869 and presented by Ulysses S. Grant to Joseph Russell Jones has particular historical appeal. Collectors will also find a fine Aesthetic bronze mounted, marquetry and ebonized pier mirror, possibly by the Herter Brothers.
