A collection of 301 cents, featuring some of the rarest and earliest examples of the American penny, made $10.7 million at auction. The coins came from the collection of Burbank resident Walter J. Husak.

Coin collectors crammed into the Heritage Auction at the Long Beach Convention Center, said Greg Rohan, president of Heritage Auction Galleries, which held the event. It was standing room only inside, with hundreds more bidding by phone and online.

Some coins fetched 10 times their estimate.

Four hours later, all but 13 of the 301 pennies had sold, Rohan said.
