Bonhams 2008 Dog Sale - Feb 12

The next Dog sale will take place on Tuesday 12th February 2008 in Bonhams New York saleroom. Highlights of the sale will be on view at Bonhams in London, in New Bond Street, Sunday January 20th - Tuesday January 22nd.

The sale will feature many popular breeds, including Fox Terriers, Jack Russells, Foxhounds and Irish Wolf Hounds, Irish Setters, Red Setters, and Spaniels. There will also be an interesting group of toy breeds such as the Maltese Terrier, Pomeranian and Dachshund. There will be familiar artists too, as the catalogue will include works by Maud Earl, Reuben Ward Binks, Samuel John Carter, Conradyn Cunaeus and Simon Simonsen.

1octerez.jpgSporting enthusiasts will be pleased to see an exceptional work by James Hardy, Jnr entitled ‘The First of October’ which is estimated to fetch $60,000-80,000. Paintings by John Emms are also on offer, including a delightful study of a Terrier which is hoped will fetch $10,000-15,000. A fine example of the work of Arthur Wardle is also in the catalogue and should fetch $20,000-30,000.

More unusual breeds are represented such as a portrait of a Champion Kerry Blue by Capt R A V Hamilton and a delightful head study of a Water Spaniel.

A section of the catalogue will be devoted to the first part of one of the largest single-owner collections of dog collars in private hands. Four centuries of dog collars, from 16th century German icon collars to early 20th century leather and brass models will be available.

Further collars, dog clothes and leads from the collection of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor will also be offered, including sterling silver collars by renowned British silversmiths and American makers such as Gorham and Tiffany, and a number of 18th and 19th century brass collars.

Bonhams’ annual Dog Art Sale enjoyed great success in 2007, setting a world auction record for American painter Edwin Megargee when the oil Three Spaniels and a Woodcock was sold for $16,730.
