Bonhams Ethnographic Arts department has enjoyed strong sales for the past few seasons, this year was no disappointment. In June, a Northwest Coast chilkat blanket brought $90,000, establishing a new auction record. As well, a Northwest Coast wood model totem pole, Haida, was sold at $78,000. Also making history in June was a Cheyenne beaded cradle, which fetched $144,000, the most paid for a like example. In the December offering, a Navajo sandpainting rug set a world auction record at $84,000.
