The state treasurer’s office plans to launch an online unclaimed property auction at noon Wednesday using the online auction site eBay. The office plans to offer 110 lots for sale, including 25 diamond sets and 26 lots of collectible coins. Starting bids are as low as 99 cents.“EBay is a great place to look for holiday gifts, and our auction has many excellent items for all types of recipients,” state Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass said in a press release. “You will not only be getting a high-quality item for a competitive price, but you will also be assured that your purchases come from a reputable source.”State law mandates that after five years of inactivity, Wisconsin financial institutions send the contents of safe deposit boxes to the treasurer’s office for safekeeping. The treasurer’s office tries to find the property owners, and if it isn’t successful in three years, the items are put up for sale.
