The city will attempt to sell its first piece of commercial property with a structure on it taken because of unpaid property taxes, at a public auction on Wednesday at City Hall.
The former Westfield Woodworking Co. property, with an estimated $570,000 in back taxes, interest and penalties, will be auctioned at 11 a.m. in the City Council Chambers by the city’s tax title custodian, Gregory I. Kallfa. The city acquired the property recently and the auction was arranged by assistant city solicitor Susan C. Phillips.
Kallfa said on Friday that property taxes on the building and property, located at 15 E. Silver St. and 6 Coleman Ave., amount to $175,000 and the remainder of the debt owed the city consists of interest, penalties and liens.
