Adelphia Coudersport HQ up for auction

As Adelphia Communications Corp. founder John Rigas and his son, Timothy, are set to begin serving lengthy federal jail sentences, another slice of the cable company’s former empire is up for sale.

An online auction has been set for Adelphia’s former corporate headquarters — a 72,056-square-foot building in the heart of Coudersport, Pa., Rigas’ hometown. The building has been virtually empty since scandal-ridden Adelphia’s assets were sold to Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Inc. more than two years ago.

The corporate headquarters building, which is valued at $30 million, can be had with a minimum bid of $1 million. The sale is being handled by the LFC Group of Cos. of Newport Beach, Calif. in conjunction with Grubb & Ellis Co., a national real estate agency.

The headquarters is one of six properties LFC Group is auctioning via the worldwide web.

“The winning bidder could own this center of operations for a fraction of its estimated $30 million value,” LFC wrote on its web site.

Other properties include nearly 9,500-square-feet of a former Adelphia Job Center building in Coudersport and a two-story, 5,400-square-foot Adelphia information technology center, also in Coudersport.

In addition, two separate, vacant parcels — each running about 1.3 acres — in Seymour, Conn. The land is zoned for residential development purposes and 26-acres of residential zoned land near San Diego.

All of the sealed bids are due by Oct. 11.
