Wells County’s 4-H Fair came to an end Thursday night with sales at the annual livestock auction topping $100,000 for the fifth consecutive year.
Following nearly 200 purchases by 9:32 p.m. — four minutes after the last goat had been sold — auction sales for the day totaled $106,820, about $13,802 less than the amount raised in 2006 and $19,655 less than the 2005 all-time record.
The auction again this year relied on a huge network of volunteers.
Auctioneers who donated their services included Ellenberger Bros., Jesston Nusbaumer, Shaw Real Estate & Auction Inc. and Steffen Group.
Ossian State Bank served as the sales clerk, and buyer registration was handled by First Bank of Berne, MarkleBank, National City and Wells Fargo.
