General Grant sword makes $1.6M at Civil War auction

A sword that once belonged to General Ulysses S- Grant brought a winning bid of more than $1.6 million in an auction of Civil War items.

The diamond-encrusted sword was 1 of the marquee items among the 750 to be auctioned yesterday and today in Gettysburg.

Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas is hosting the auction at the site of the 1863 tide-turning Civil War battle. Online and phone bidders also participated.
