An auction of Jackson family memorabilia has fetched over 1.5 million dollars, Guernsey’s auction house said Friday.
The two-day auction included clothing that belonged to popstar Michael Jackson and industry memorabilia like Jackson’s MTV music award for the song We Are The World, which fetched 16,000 dollars.
The top-selling item among the more than 1,000 lots was a red military style jacket that fetched over 20,000 dollars. The auction at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino also included numerous memorabilia from other famous Jacksons – Janet, Jermaine, Tito and La Toya.
The treasure trove was sold by Universal Express Inc, a luggage company, who acquired them last March. The company’s chief executive, Richard Altomare, said he was not disappointed with the sales figures so far, despite the fact the company bought them for 5 million dollars and spent 2 million transporting them.
Guernsey is planning a second auction in which the remaining memorabilia will be sold.
