Vehicles available at GSA car auctions
Published May 12th, 2007
Approximately 40,000 cars, vans, trucks and SUVs are auctioned off annually by the General Services Administration.
While professional dealers commonly attend, the average consumer can as well. You only need to be a licensed driver and at least 18 to bid.
The GSA claims that, with no buyer’s fees, the vehicles “usually sell for substantially less than from other sources.”
The GSA is the federal agency that buys fleet vehicles new and then leases them to other federal agencies. When the lease terms end (usually within three to five years), the GSA sells them.
The agency indicates that the vehicles “have been well-maintained,” and each vehicle sold “will conform to its description.” However, condition is not guaranteed. Prospective buyers may conduct a non-driving inspection of vehicles.
Details regarding the GSA auctions are available at www.autoauctions.gsa.gov. The site provides information necessary to participate, including finding an auction site, searching for models and searching for vehicle makes and models.
