Vintage Bordeaux could fetch $60,000 at Chicago auction

The wine, a 1945 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, is contained in a jeroboam, an oversized bottle that contains enough wine to fill six regular-sized bottles.
“Aside from the wine being tasty, there’s a great deal of history attached to it,” said Alpana Singh, a sommelier and director of wine and spirits for Chicago-based Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises Inc.
1945 marked the end of World War II and was “the first good vintage” after the war, Ms. Singh said.
The auction is being held by Lake Forest-based wine auctioneers Edward Roberts International and Sam’s Wines & Spirits, a retailer with three Chicago-area locations.
Brian Rosen, president of Sam’s, said pre-auction bidding for the bottle had already hit $28,000 and he thinks it could rise as high as $60,000. The auction is scheduled for April 21.
