U2 - THE EDGE AUCTIONS OFF FAMOUS GUITAR

Published March 27th, 2007

U2 rocker THE EDGE is auctioning off his beloved 1975 Gibson Les Paul guitar to raise cash for the musicians charity he co-founded to help those struggling to come to terms with Hurricane Katrina. The instrument has featured on most of U2’s albums and has been the guitarist’s favourite axe on the road - but The Edge feels it’s time to let it go. The Les Paul will now be a top item at an upcoming memorabilia auction benefiting Music Rising, a charity the guitarist co-founded to replace musical equipment destroyed by the 2005 hurricane tragedy. He tells the Associated Press, “I wanted to give something really significant that would really mean a lot for me to give. It deserved something that I would miss.” The Icons Of Music auction, to take place at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York next month
