Stamford Auction, in conjunction with it’s high-end retailer Braswell Gallery, occupies 70,000 square feet.
Its last auction, held on New Year’s day, brought in $2.3 million for 1,300 lots.
A majority of the merchandise that passes through Stamford Auction’s doors comes from the estates of people who have died, or have chosen to downsize their homes, Auction Gallery Manager Kathleen Keating said.
This gives already valuable items an increased “provenance,” or significance because of the succession of owners, said Keating, who will soon auction off pieces from a Waldorf-Astoria apartment that Cole Porter, and then Frank Sinatra, called home.
400 people are expected to attend the next auction, scheduled for Feb. 11, to bid on 14,500 lots.
