Livestock show auction takes $211,000

More than 200 bidders Saturday spent more than $211,000 on auctioned animals ranging from a 2-pound rabbit to a 1,360-pound steer.
Devin Boyd, 13, was the first to auction animals in the new Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds arena. The River Hills 4-H member’s two grand champion market rabbits sold for $12,500.
Buyers at the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show Blue-Ribbon Auction Sale recognize the winners’ hard work.
“You never see graffiti on a show barn,” said Scott Frazier, 47, a bidder for about 15 years. “These kids are too busy inside working.”
This year, Frazier and his team of farmer/rancher cohorts collected $19,500 by the 10 a.m. auction start time to buy at least 25 projects.
