California County Tax Sale Season Kicks Off on Bid4Assets

Published January 18th, 2007

Press Release

Bid4Assets has sold more than $239 million in tax-defaulted real estate for California counties since conducting the first-ever full service Internet tax sale in 2000, which was for Kern County. More than two dozen California counties have turned to Bid4Assets to conduct their tax auctions online. Bid4Assets — a leading online auction site for forfeited, surplus and tax-defaulted property from federal, state and local government — has sold nearly 25,000 tax-defaulted properties in the Golden State. California counties collect back taxes, penalties, interest and fees from the selling price; any remaining money is returned to the property owner. In 2006 the sales total for California counties was just under $40 million.

“In the past, tax auctions could be a real hassle. Bid4Assets saved San Bernardino County countless staff hours by managing our tax auctions, from the scheduling of the auction to the collection of deposits to the successful sale. All San Bernardino citizens benefit because there is more money in the county treasury for vital programs and services like fire and police protection; education; and road maintenance,” said San Bernardino Treasurer- Tax Collector Dick Larsen.

Just a few days into the new year, Lake County is leading what promises to be a busy tax sale season for California counties. Lake County is conducting its tax sale on Bid4Assets Jan. 29-31, and 109 properties are up for auction.

Other upcoming California county tax sales include Imperial, Kern, Santa Cruz, Alameda, San Francisco and San Bernardino. A complete list of scheduled tax auctions is available at http://www.bid4assets.com/taxsale; county tax auctions are added regularly as dates are finalized.
