Scottsdale City and Collector Car Auction yet to agree on a deal

The city of Scottsdale and operators of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction have yet to agree on a long-term deal to keep the auction in the city.
To meet Barrett-Jackson’s demands, the city has spent roughly $46 million over the last 18 months in buying land and fixing up a city-run facility where the auction is held, officials say.
But Barrett-Jackson contends it can’t sign a long-term deal to stay at WestWorld of Scottsdale unless the city can guarantee enough parking throughout such a 20- to 30-year agreement.
The 36th year of the car auction began Sunday. Bidders spent $100 million on vehicles last year, and the event was credited with bringing an estimated $96 million to the area’s economy.
About 250,000 people were expected to pass through the gates this year, and 1,240 cars were to be auctioned.
Barrett-Jackson has the option of renewing an annual agreement with Scottsdale to hold the auction at WestWorld within 30 days after the completion of each year’s event, Assistant City Manager Roger Klingler said.
