Pryor Mountain wild horses auctioned

Published October 5th, 2006

Fourteen wild horses from the Pryor Mountain National Wild Horse Range were adopted in September, the Bureau of Land Management said Wednesday.

The highest bid was $1,500 for a red roan yearling filly, said Sandy Brooks, Billings field manager for the Bureau of Land Management.

The adoption was conducted through a sealed bid process with minimum bids of $125.

Of the 18 horses up for adoption, 14 received bids. The average price was $565.60.

The horses remain the property of the United States government for one year. At that time, the adopter may receive title to the horse if it has been properly cared for.

The four horses that were not adopted will go to the wild horse adoption facility in Rock Springs, Wyo., and be offered in a subsequent adoption.
