Lawyers on behalf of eBay have filed a 13-count trademark infringement lawsuit against WorldAuctions. In the lawsuit, eBay argues that the WorldAuctions Web site is “a blatant knockoff of the famous eBay Web site, in violation of eBay’s intellectual property rights.” The lawsuit cites several examples where eBay found items on the WorldAuctions Web site that are similar to distinctive, copy-protected elements of eBay.com, including eBay’s stylized “IT” logo, eBay’s “Whatever it is, you can sell it here” tagline, and the copying of eBay’s “Buy It Now” trademark, as well as the position and color of special text areas used on the site, to name but a few instances.
