Press Release
On September 26th, John Moran Auctioneers will host their inaugural DISCOVERY SALE at the Pasadena Convention Center. The Discovery Sale will feature 150 lots of fresh estate property all of which will be offered without reserve and will be sold to bidders in the sale room only — there will be no telephone or internet bidding on these lots. Among the lots to be offered are paintings by listed artists; California landscapes; porcelain by Meissen, Dresden and Royal Copenhagen; art pottery; sterling silver by makers such as Tiffany, Shreve and Gorham; Baccarat and Steuben glass; antique furniture and fine furnishings, collectibles and carpets, leather-bound books, bronzes and old-fashioned “box lots” which are a treasure hunter’s dream.
For over 35 years, Moran’s has held antique and estate auctions supported by loyal local bidders and
buyers who have attended these sales consistently in person. In the early days buyers had to attend in
person, pouring through the lots as on a quest, “discovering” what would be coming on the block
that evening. In that spirit, the new Discovery Sale offers that traditional feeling of auction excitement, the Discovery Sale will begin at 4 p.m., preview opens at 1 p.m.
The Discovery Sale will be followed by Moran’s always exceptional Antique and Estate Auction which will begin at 6:30 p.m. This evening sale will be fully catalogued and illustrated online. Bidding will be available from the floor, telephone and via the internet.
Moran’s September 26th Antique and Estate Auction will feature over 200 lots of fine antique furniture, art, sculptures, sterling, Asian works of art, porcelains and much more. One highlight will be an American Queen Anne mahogany highboy, probably Chester County, Pennsylvania from the Clemens Family from the second half of the 18th century (photo 1). This exceptional piece which measures 74” H x 44” W x 22.5” D is estimated at $15,000 to $20,000.
