State suspends plan to auction Kauai cabins
Published August 10th, 2006
State officials have postponed their plans to auction off 100 privately owned cabins at Kokee State Park on Kauai.
Board of Land and Natural Resources chairman Peter Young says the current residents of the park will be able to stay there at least until next year.
He says he didn’t want to see the leases expire and people kicked off their property, especially while lawsuits are still pending in the courts.
The land was leased to the cabin owners for a 20-year term that is set to expire at the end of the year.
The state planned to offer the cabins to the highest bidder at a public auction before the current residents raised objections.
