Cass County siezed property auction
Published July 21st, 2006
Cass County’s forfeited properties will go on the auction block Aug. 26 with 50 parcels of property going to the highest bidder.
The property offered was forfeited for non-payment of property taxes from 2003 or earlier. These property owners lost all rights to their property if they did not pay taxes, interest and penalties by March 31, according to Cass County Treasurer Linda Irwin.
The property sale will be held at the Van Buren Intermediate School at 490 South Paw Paw Street, Lawrence. It will be in conjunction with property sales from Van Buren County, Allegan County and Ottawa County.
The four-county sale was allowed to be held as long as the counties touch each other on the map.
“This will give more parcels to sell and save time and money,” Irwin said. This is the first county sale in six years, she said, noting that prior sales were conducted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
The sale starts at 10 a.m. with registration at 9 a.m.
A catalog with maps showing where parcels are located are offered at the Information Systems office at the Cass County Building, 120 North Broadway, for $7.50 each. The information with maps are also available on the Internet at www.tax-sale.info with property descriptions and minimum bids.
