Cecil County Sports arena for auction

Cecil County’s Sonic Sports Arena, an indoor sports recreation facility for children and adults, will be auctioned off for interested buyers or developers.

The 19,000-square-foot arena, which sits on three acres in the town of North East, will be auctioned off on the morning of July 18.

Included in the sale will be both the business and the arena, said Don Miller, sales director for Express Auction, who is representing Sonic Sports Arena on the sale.

The bulk of the business at the arena comes from organized sports leagues, including soccer and flag football. Miller expects the bidding for the arena to start at around $500,000 and sell anywhere from $900,000 to $1.4 million.

The ultimate sale price is hard to predict, Miller said, “because you just don’t what someone’s ultimate purpose is” for the arena.

“What we’re expecting is that the buyer will most likely continue to operate the business and pay off the property,” added Miller. But “someone could tear it down and sit on it if they wanted to.”

Miller added he wouldn’t be surprised to see the owner redevelop the property after it is paid off, with federal Base Realignment and Closure actions lurking close to the area.

The steel-structured facility features Sportexe Momentum Turf, the same turf used at M&T Bank Stadium for Baltimore Ravens games, as well as a bullpen for pitching practice and a party room.
