Various eBay scams are giving many residents across the state a run for their money.

“ Arkansas is above the national average as far as Internet crimes go, ” said Detective Mike Parks of the Fayetteville Police Department. “ We’re at nearly 66 percent, and the national average is at 62. 7 percent. ”

In 2003, Arkansas’ Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC 3 ) processed 11, 987 complaints, ranking auction fraud as the No. 1 complaint.

According to Parks, the Fayetteville Police Department investigates all online fraud complaints in its jurisdiction. While some reports of Internet crimes are made directly to police, Parks said the department also receives complaints from the National White Collar Crime Center (NW 3 C ).
