US SEC charges brokers in auction rate market case

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday said 15 brokerage firms had agreed to pay more than $13 million in combined penalties to settle charges of violations in the auction rate securities market for municipal and corporate bonds.

The SEC said it had censured and penalized the firms in varying amounts. It said its investigation was continuing.
