An industry trade group on Tuesday filed three lawsuits against several sellers on online marketplace EBay, claiming the defendants knowingly sold pirated software.
The suits were the first filed under the Software and Information Industry Association’s new Auction Litigation Program, which monitors web auction sites and sues suspected pirates on behalf of the association’s member companies.
The group has 750 members that include some of the biggest names in the industry, including Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi America, IBM and Time Warner. Companies that may not be members but participate in the group’s anti-piracy efforts include Adobe Systems, Intuit, Microsoft and Oracle.
