Titanic deck chair not sold at auction
Published May 8th, 2006
There was no winning bid in an auction today for the deck chair snatched from the Titanic on the day the ship left for its fateful journey in 1912.
The bidding topped out at 62-thousand dollars.
That was short of a confidential sale threshold set by its anonymous seller with Bonhams and Butterfields, a British-based auction house.
Bonhams will now try to sell the chair privately.
The worn beech wood recliner was taken from the Titanic by an Irish newspaper photographer.
Bonhams says the deck chair is one of only six left in world.
