Former university campus fails to sell in Huron

Former Huron University campus failed to sell Friday when bidding fell short of the seller’s minimum.
After individual bids on six land tracts totaled $116,000, auctioneers began taking bids on the six tracts as a single unit.
Bidding reached $262,500 for the package, but a U.S. Department of Agriculture representative then stipulated that the price needed to reach $600,000 to make a deal. There appeared to be three bidders vying for the single-unit campus, but none raised their yellow cards after the price tag jumped.
Voorhees Hall, several dormitories, the library and the campus center were part of the campus package.
David Niederbaumer, a financial associate for Thrivent Financial in Huron, won the individual bidding on a tract that included Voorhees Hall, the gym and a maintenance shop with a bid of $75,000, but his deal was voided when buyers began making offers on the full six-tract lot.
