Hurricane Charity sells Clooney’s Oscar bag
Published March 30th, 2006
An exclusive bag of presents given to George Clooney at this year’s Oscars has raised more than $45,000 (£26,000) at an online charity auction.
All actors who introduced award categories received the bag, containing items such as a pocket computer, a designer kimono and a pearl necklace.
The auction’s proceeds will go towards the relief effort for the hurricanes which ravaged the US last year.
Clooney’s publicist said it was common for him to offer such gifts to charity.
The successful bidder was not identified by the organisation behind the sale, United Way of America.
At the Oscars, Clooney was named best supporting actor for Syriana, the first time he had been in the running for an Academy Award.
The film Good Night, and Good Luck also earned him nominations in the best director and best original screenplay categories.
