Historic theater sold at auction

The historic Fox Theatre has been sold, but its future as an actual theater is still up in the air.
The building, which has been empty for more than two years, was bought Tuesday at an auction in Hays by Brooks Kellogg of Steamboat Springs, Colo. for $101,000.
“I have a couple ideas that might work out for the theater,” said Kellogg, who works for Chadwick Real Estate Group and is a 1965 alumnus of Fort Hays State University.
Kellogg said the building will undergo renovations later this summer, but he declined to discuss what kind of changes might take place. The building has little parking and is not up to code.
Handicap accessibility and moving the bathrooms will be among the priorities, he said.
“Some of the parts in here will disappear,” Kellogg said. “We’ll probably keep the upper level as a theater but not show first- or second-run movies.”
