The State Land Department was to auction 60 acres of prime infill commercial land near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at its west Washington Street office in Phoenix.

The land, appraised at nearly $16 million, is located at the southwest corner of the Loop 202 and the intersection of 40th Street.

The property is planned for a prime flex office, industrial and warehouse complex.

Last year, the State Land Department earned $500 million through land auctions and this year is likely to break those records, according to department officials.

Coming up April 6, the department will put about 81 acres up for auction in the Desert Ridge area of north Phoenix. The opening bid is set for just under $20 million and will likely blow past that figure. The land is zoned for residential and is south of Pinnacle Peak in between the future 32nd Street alignment and the west side of Tatum Boulevard.

Money raised through these state land auctions benefit Arizona public schools serving kindergarten through 12th grade students.
