St. Louis County saves on eBay
Published March 28th, 2006
County officials say they’ve saved more than $200,000 by buying communications equipment off eBay.
Most of the police radios and mobile computer equipment were just two to three years old — and the cost was only about ten percent of the cost for new equipment.
Officials are considering when it would be effective to use eBay rather than buying new equipment.
They say it won’t work for some purchases, like squad cars, which should be new. And equipment has to cost less than $50,000 to avoid bidding requirements.
