Richard Pryor Painted Bowl Sells for $7.099
Published March 22nd, 2006
A ceramic bowl painted by the late Richard Pryor was sold in an online auction for $7,099. The comedian had painted a self portrait inside it, with Little Black Man in Big White World written around the portrait, and sent it to the Geauga Humane Society before he died on December 10, aged 65. He died of a heart attack after being ill for years with multiple sclerosis.
The Geauga Humane Society is a privately funded, nonprofit animal protection organization. They offered to return the bowl to Pryor’s widow, Jennifer, but she declined saying the society should use it to gain as much money as possible for their cause.
The bowl was sold to GoldenPalace.com, an Internet-based company which often buys items for charity and publicity. They currently have a collection of unique items they intend on taking around the country as a traveling show.
