Kurt Cobain guitar for Dallas auction
Published February 22nd, 2006
A guitar that belonged to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain could fetch more than $75,000 in a Dallas auction, it was reported Tuesday.
The guitar is one of the items hitting the block during the Heritage Auction Galleries` Signature Music & Entertainment auction scheduled for April 15, Roadrunner Records said on its Web site, Blabbermouth.net.
‘This instrument is unusual in a couple of ways,’ Doug Norwine of Heritage told Blabbermouth.net.
‘First, it is the only known example of a Mark V style Mosrite Gospel model. While Kurt owned and smashed many cheaper (usually Univox) copies of Mosrite guitars during his career, this was one of only two actual Mosrites he owned. It was also one of his favorite guitars, which saved it from the usual fate of the instruments he used for live performances.’
Included in the lot is a letter from Chris Cobb, who sold Cobain the guitar in the fall of 1990.
The starting bid on the guitar is $75,000.
