A 19th Century painting of New Forest foxhounds is expected to fetch up to £700,000 at an auction in New York.

John Emms’ New Forest Foxhounds was commissioned by Henry Powell, who was master of the New Forest Hunt during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The work, which is being auctioned by Bonhams on Tuesday, is expected to fetch a record amount for the artist.

The lot includes a copy of the original signed key by Powell with the names and birth dates of each dog.
