Arkansas couple arrested in $70,000 eBay fraud

A couple has been arrested and accused of running a $70,000 eBay scam with merchandise stolen from the Arkansas location of a Missouri supply company where the husband was a manager, police said.
The manager, Johnny Wayne West, 38, and his wife Shannon West, 39, both of West Memphis, are charged with felony theft of property.
West Memphis police discovered the scam when a fellow policeman in Texas contacted the department saying he sent the West Memphis-based eBay seller, allegedly the Wests, a $110 cashier’s check for a drill, but never received the tool, Assistant Chief Mike Allen said, crediting Detective Sgt. Will Smith.
Smith found the seller was the manager of Riggs Supply Company in West Memphis and that the manager had many transactions listed including wall heaters, drills, power tools and faucets.
Smith then contacted Riggs’ home office in Kennett, Mo., where the owners and security officers found the Wests allegedly sold $70,000 in merchandise on eBay over 14 months. All of the property is suspected to be Riggs’ property.
The couple were arrested Friday.
