In an auction that drew seven registered bidders, the county sold 332.436 acres of surplus land at U.S. 27 and Riverbend Road to Mark C. Woods Homes Inc., of Newnan. When Ben Hudson of Hudson & Marshall Auctioneers of Macon sounded the gavel, Woods had offered the high figure of $3,100 per acre for the land.
Total purchase price was $1,133,606, which includes an additional 10 percent above the bid, part of which goes to pay the auctioneers. The county receives $1,030,551. Woods was required to pay 15 percent or $170,041 Thursday, leaving a balance of $963,565 to pay at closing in about 30 days, according to the contract.
