Elvis Presley limo for Arizona auction
Published January 4th, 2006
A 1960 Lincoln Mark V limousine once owned by Elvis Presley is to go up for auction in Arizona later this month, the first time it has come up for public sale.
The customised long black limo was personally ordered from Lincoln by Elvis while he was stationed with the US Army in Germany and it comes with a copy of its bill of sale, registration documents and power of attorney signed by Elvis, to authenticate it. There is also a photo of Elvis, in his Army uniform, with the car in front of his mansion, Graceland.
The Lincoln has just 33,000 miles on the clock and is fitted out with tinted privacy glass and front and rear air conditioning by customisers Hess and Eisenhardt. One of the first of the 1960 Lincolns, it has the serial number 32. It was only owned by Elvis for five years, however, having belonged to a close friend of his for the last 40 years.
Nonetheless, a spokesman for the auctioneers Barrett-Jackson says: “The story of this car is legendary. Elvis purchased this car at the pinnacle of his career and used it regularly throughout his movie and music stints in Hollywood and Memphis. With the exception of the legendary pink Cadillac Elvis gave his mother, this is as good as it gets. Many stories have been told of the King tooling around Tennessee in the Lincoln, which was considered by many of his closest friends to be his favourite car.”
