Conatel may call off an auction for acquiring radio spectrum monitoring equipment due to rumors that the project will be awarded to a contestant that offered US$1mn more than the lowest offer, news service ABC quoted Conatel head Jorge Pavetti as saying.

Conatel was due to take a decision on Thursday. By the time of publication BNamericas had been unable to confirm whether or not a decision had been made.

The following companies made offers for the contract: Data Lab, which offered 14.5bn guaranes (US$2.37mn); Promec (20.4bn guaranes) and Compusaver (24.7bn guaranes). The reference price is US$2.5mn.

Conatel staff evaluating the technical aspects of each bid believe Promec is the favorite to win, but the company was unable to supply the correct certificates for the equipment and software they proposed, according to ABC. The same was true of Compusaver’s bid.
