John F Kennedy’s watch sells for $350,000

Published December 17th, 2005

A watch worn by the late US President John F Kennedy at his inauguration has fetched $350,000 (£198,000) at auction.

The Omega watch – which was bought by the same company – was among hundreds of items belonging to JFK and his wife, Jacqueline, on auction in New York.

Other items on sale at the three-day event include passports, a hotline telephone used by JFK on his travels, rocking chairs and two sailboats.

Most of the items being auctioned by Guernsey’s belonged to Robert White, who was fascinated with President Kennedy and became friends with his secretary after JFK’s death.

The auction concludes on Saturday.
