Lawren Harris Art for Canadian Auction

A large-scale work by Group of Seven member Lawren Harris takes centre stage Monday morning at a fall auction of Canadian art in Toronto. Algoma Hill, an oil on canvas Harris painted “when the Group of Seven was being born,” has drawn a lot of attention, said Sotheby’s Canada president David Silcox.

“I think a lot of eyes will be on the large Lawren Harris [Algoma Hill],” Silcox told CBC Arts Online. “It’s a very spectacular work: one that is historically very important and one that carries the highest retail estimate [of $800,000 to $1.2 million].”
