A house and 6 acres in this Boone County community are up for grabs starting today. The U.S. Marshals Service is auctioning off the house it seized this year from a man convicted of growing marijuana for $105,000.The house, at 4210 Beaver Road, is being auctioned on the Internet on the Web site Bid4assets.com. . where the listing had received 17,859 page views as of Monday afternoon. The bidding requires a $10,000 deposit.”We pretty much do all the auctions on the Internet now,” said John Schickel, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Kentucky. “It’s more cost-effective and we get better exposure.”The U.S. Marshal Service started using the Internet to auction property last year. In April 2004, the service sold a house Covington using the Web.Since then the service has sold six houses by Internet auction, Schickel said. The 1,305-square-foot house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. According to the listing, the main level has “dirty flooring and walls,” the driveway is in “poor condition” and the access is limited to four-wheel-drive vehicles only. The house was owned by Jeff McCurry, who pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in July to manufacturing and possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute.
